A 19-year-old Sunderland man, Billy Stokoe, has admitted causing the death of 86-year-old Gloria Stephenson, a great-grandmother, in a May 2025 collision on Burdon Road.
Stokoe, who was riding an unlicensed, uninsured electric bike, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after hitting Stephenson on a zebra crossing.
Court proceedings revealed he was speeding, using a mobile phone, and tested positive for a cannabis compound.
Stephenson died at the scene.
The case, captured on dashcam, has raised concerns about e-bike safety and distracted driving.
Sentencing is set for May 15, with a pre-sentence report underway.
