Wisconsin Senate funds WisconsinEye for one year amid legislative push to secure its future.
The Wisconsin Senate approved a bipartisan bill providing nearly $600,000 in one-year funding for WisconsinEye to resume broadcasting after it went off the air in December due to financial shortfalls.
The legislation, introduced by Sen. Julian Bradley, includes a competitive bidding process for future broadcast rights and requires WisconsinEye to appoint new board members.
While Senate Democrats supported the amended version after funding was added, the bill now faces the Assembly, which passed a different proposal creating a $10 million endowment.
With the Assembly set to adjourn Thursday, a final agreement is needed to prevent WisconsinEye from going dark again in March.
Meanwhile, a land conservation program extension was dropped due to lack of Republican support, and the Senate passed measures restricting foreign adversaries’ land ownership and activities in the state.
