Seven influencers plead guilty to illegally promoting unregulated forex trading on Instagram, misleading followers with false profit promises.
Seven reality TV stars and social media influencers, including Lauren Goodger and others from shows like Love Island and TOWIE, have pleaded guilty to illegally promoting unregulated foreign exchange (FX) trading on Instagram.
They admitted to encouraging followers to join trading services without FCA authorization, using misleading claims like “free signals” and “consistent profits.” The Financial Conduct Authority launched a landmark criminal case in 2024, citing the risk posed by influencers with large followings.
Goodger, who earned £2,275 for four posts, was fined £3,750 and ordered to pay £5,778 in costs, while others received varying penalties.
One victim lost £150 of a £250 investment after being misled.
