Nova Scotia approves two gas-powered plants to stabilize grid, with future fuel flexibility and renewable energy support.
The Nova Scotia government has granted partial approval for two fast-acting electricity plants in Pictou County, planned for Salt Springs and Marshdale, to help stabilize the grid during peak demand and low wind periods.
Initially running on natural gas, the plants could later use other fuels and each is expected to power about 96,000 homes.
The energy system operator will now conduct feasibility studies, environmental testing, and consultations before final approval, pending additional provincial and federal clearances.
The project supports the province’s shift to renewable energy and growing electric demand.
