Nigerian dispatch riders protested in Abuja over excessive taxes and impounded motorcycles, leading to talks with officials.
On February 19, 2026, thousands of dispatch riders in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory protested at the FCT Administration Secretariat in Abuja, demanding an end to what they called multiple and excessive taxation.
They claimed to already pay annual fees to three local governments totaling N13,000, but were now being targeted by a new group demanding N25,000, with motorcycles being impounded until paid.
Riders also cited N300 market entry fees as a growing financial burden.
The protest was suspended after officials from the FCT Transportation Secretariat held talks with rider leaders to address their concerns.
