A man and his father were convicted in the 2025 Kent crash that killed a 4-year-old boy and injured the driver after a drunk, high-speed pursuit.
A 27-year-old man, Owen Maughan, was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of four-year-old Peter Maughan, who died in a high-speed crash in Kent, England, in June 2025.
Owen admitted to deliberately striking a Ford pick-up truck at about 60 mph after a pursuit, claiming he only wanted to damage the vehicle to provoke a fight and did not know children were inside.
His father, Patrick Maughan, 54, was also convicted of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
The crash, which occurred after both men had consumed alcohol, caused the car to roll over, killing Peter and seriously injuring the driver, Lovell Mahon, who now faces permanent mobility issues.
Both men fled the scene and attempted to remove the truck’s registration plate.
Kent Police called the incident a “devastating and entirely avoidable tragedy.” Sentencing is pending.
