INDOT proposes redesigning 6 miles of U.S. 31 with interchanges to improve safety after fatal crashes, including those involving children, with construction starting in 2028.
The Indiana Department of Transportation is proposing a safety-focused redesign of a 6-mile stretch of U.S. 31 in Marshall and Fulton counties, following fatal crashes, including those involving children.
The plan, shaped by public feedback, includes replacing nine intersections with interchanges and overpasses to reduce conflict points, with a temporary reduced conflict intersection at State Road 10 starting this summer and full construction set for 2028.
INDOT has removed traffic circles and permanent reduced conflict intersections from the proposal and is considering retaining some existing intersections to maintain access for agriculture, emergency services, and local traffic.
A public hearing on final plans and costs is expected in early 2027.
