Eddie Vedder quit smoking after a 2020 call with Martin Short, who asked if he was smoking cigarettes or weed.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder said he quit smoking after a candid 2020 phone call with comedian Martin Short during the pandemic.
After relapsing while isolated, Vedder told Short he was struggling.
When Short asked if he was smoking cigarettes or marijuana, he replied, “Oh, are you still waiting for more literature on that?” Vedder said the remark hit home, prompting his final decision to stop.
He acknowledged the moment might be slightly embellished for storytelling.
The revelation came during a podcast interview with Dana Carvey and David Spade, where Vedder also recalled a rare 1994 Pearl Jam performance where the band played three songs instead of two.
