CIA knew of Ukraine’s 2022 Nord Stream sabotage plan but didn’t authorize it, U.S. denies involvement.
A Der Spiegel report claims the CIA was aware in early 2022 of a Ukrainian plan to sabotage the Nord Stream pipelines, with U.S. officials reportedly discussing the idea but ultimately not authorizing or funding it.
The magazine says the CIA attempted to dissuade Ukrainian operatives, including military figures, from proceeding despite the operation moving forward independently, possibly with private Ukrainian funding.
The attacks, which damaged three pipelines, have been labeled international terrorism by Russia.
The U.S. has denied the allegations, calling them false.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no official confirmation of U.S. involvement.
