Chatham-Kent councillors will review progress on Wheatley’s recovery nearly five years after a deadly 2021 gas blast destroyed two buildings, injured 20 people, and displaced residents and businesses.
Economic development officer Kyra Knapp will present updates from the Wheatley recovery task force and recommend adopting the 2025–2029 community development action plan, which aims to guide physical, economic, and social recovery through investment, affordable housing, infrastructure upgrades, tourism, and community engagement.
The plan is designed to be grant-ready, with phased implementation, cost estimates, and alignment with existing municipal strategies, funded through future budgets and provincial support.
