Archaeologist Steve Dickinson suggests Viking king Ivarr the Boneless may be buried under a mound in Cumbria, with radar surveys planned for summer.
Archaeologist Steve Dickinson believes the burial site of ninth-century Viking king Ivarr the Boneless may lie beneath The King’s Mound in southwest Cumbria, a location referenced in medieval texts as Cuningishow.
The mound, surrounded by 39 smaller mounds matching patterns seen in Scandinavian ship burials, is near Viking fleet bases detected by satellite imaging.
While the exact location remains undisclosed for preservation, ground-penetrating radar surveys and community excavations are planned for summer, potentially revealing one of the UK’s most significant Viking discoveries.
