A 17-year-old stole a luxury car on Australia’s Gold Coast, drove it for six hours, crashed it, abandoned it—and the dog inside—before being arrested.
A 17-year-old boy from Tugun has been charged in connection with the theft of a luxury Mercedes-Benz on the Gold Coast, Australia, on February 18, 2026, while a 12-year-old dachshund remained inside.
The car was stolen from a shopping center in Worongary around 4 p.m. as the 48-year-old owner was nearby.
The teen drove the vehicle for about six hours, crashed it into a Dodge Ram, and abandoned both the car and the dog in Nerang.
The dog was found by residents, taken to a vet, and reunited with its owner unharmed.
Police tracked the car across the Gold Coast, deployed a tyre-deflation device, and arrested the teen outside the Palm Beach police station just after 11 p.m.
He faces multiple charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation, and entering premises, and was scheduled to appear in Southport Children’s Court the following day.
