Wetaskiwin will build a new K-8 school by 2029, replacing three elementary schools and addressing past inequities.
Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools is moving forward with plans to build a new K-8 school on the Norwood Elementary site, set to open in 2028–2029, replacing Norwood, Centennial, and Parkdale Elementary Schools.
Approved by the province in 2024, the project is in the design phase, with a request for proposals planned for April.
Students will be reassigned to the new school, Clear Vista, or Queen Elizabeth School, with Grade 9 students attending Wetaskiwin Composite High School.
The new facility will include a gym, food lab, and wood lab to address past inequities.
Boundary changes are being developed, considering transportation challenges like train tracks, and transition committees will support the shift.
