UT Austin relocates its $2.5B medical center from downtown to Northwest Austin’s Domain area due to space and integration issues.
The University of Texas at Austin has moved its planned $2.5 billion Academic Medical Center from the downtown Erwin Center site to a new location near The Domain in Northwest Austin, citing space and integration limitations.
The project, still targeting a 2030 completion, will include a UT specialty care hospital and an MD Anderson Cancer Center, with the new site expected to better support research, education, and patient care.
The Erwin Center was demolished in 2024, and no immediate plans exist for the vacant site.
