TMC alleges ECI officials violated court rules using WhatsApp to direct voter deletions in West Bengal, prompting threat of Supreme Court action.
On February 18, 2026, Trinamool Congress leaders, including MP Mahua Moitra and Abhishek Banerjee, accused Election Commission officials in West Bengal of violating Supreme Court guidelines by using WhatsApp to issue directives to micro observers during the voter list verification process.
They alleged that central officials, including Special Roll Observer C. Murugan, bypassed official channels, directed voter deletions, and misused login credentials, with some logins originating from locations inconsistent with observers’ postings.
The TMC claimed these actions, aimed at targeting specific communities, undermined transparency and natural justice, especially after the ECI suspended seven officials without notice.
The party vowed to seek Supreme Court intervention, citing broader concerns over political interference in the electoral process.
TMC alega que los funcionarios de ECI violaron las reglas de la corte usando WhatsApp para dirigir la eliminación de votantes en Bengala Occidental, lo que provocó la amenaza de una acción de la Corte Suprema.
