Timmins launches a $150,000 incentive program, offering up to $7,500 per new housing unit to boost development and address a housing shortage.
The City of Timmins has approved a new Housing Community Improvement Plan, launching a $150,000 incentive program effective February 19, 2026, to boost housing development.
The plan offers up to $7,500 per new housing unit, capped at four units per project, through a “per door grant” for small to medium-scale developments, including basement suites and new homes.
Eligible projects include both ownership and purpose-built rental units, but renovations are excluded.
Larger developments may qualify for a five-year tax increment rebate and full reimbursement of Planning Act fees.
Funded by the municipal portion of the four percent accommodation tax, the initiative aims to address a housing shortage, as Timmins needs 71 new units annually to meet population growth projections, far below recent construction levels.
Council passed the plan unanimously, with a progress report due in one year and potential budget increases if demand is high.
