Odisha seeks help to rescue six workers trapped in a Thai factory, alleging wage theft, abuse, and passport confiscation.
The Government of Odisha has urged the Ministry of External Affairs to rescue six state workers reportedly trapped in a Thai plywood factory, where they claim they were denied wages for months, forced to work 12+ hours daily, given minimal food, and had passports confiscated.
The workers, recruited through Uttar Pradesh agents, paid ₹2 lakh each and were promised ₹50,000 monthly salaries.
After recording a distress video and appealing for help, their families alerted officials, prompting state and central government intervention.
The MEA has been asked to coordinate with Thai authorities for their repatriation and recovery of unpaid wages.
