Libya's leadership condemns Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's Feb. 3 assassination, stressing its threat to reconciliation and democracy ahead of April 2026 elections.
The Libyan Presidential Council condemned the Feb. 3 assassination of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in Zintan, calling it a blow to national reconciliation and stability.
Chairman Mohammed al-Menfi stressed that excluding Gaddafi from the 2026 presidential election, despite his 2021 candidacy, weakens Libya’s democratic path.
The government, including Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, affirmed it is conducting a responsible investigation, with coordination among the Attorney General, interior minister, and local officials.
The High National Elections Commission has scheduled presidential elections for April 2026.
