The Supreme Court of India has closed a legal challenge against the film title 'Ghooskhor Pandat' after filmmaker Neeraj Pandey confirmed the title was permanently withdrawn and all promotional materials removed.
The court, led by Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan, accepted Pandey’s affidavit and dismissed the petition, stating the controversy was resolved.
The film, starring Manoj Bajpayee and part of Netflix India’s 2026 slate, remains in production with no new title announced.
The original title faced backlash for allegedly perpetuating caste and religious stereotypes, particularly harming the Brahmin community, prompting the court to emphasize that free speech does not permit denigration of communities.
The Delhi High Court had previously dismissed a similar plea after Netflix committed to changing the title and removing related content.
