Hong Kong and Guangzhou celebrated the Lunar New Year with joint fireworks and drone shows, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, highlighting equestrian culture and promoting gambling and a new racecourse.
On February 18, 2026, Hong Kong launched the Year of the Horse with a 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour, using 31,888 shells to depict charging horses, wealth symbols, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s branding.
A parallel drone and fireworks show in Guangzhou’s Conghua district used 1,200 drones to portray horse racing scenes and lucky motifs.
Both events, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, were part of a year-long campaign celebrating equestrian culture, promoting community development, and supporting legal gambling.
The Club also announced plans to open a new racecourse in Conghua in October to boost the national equine industry.
