Ghanaian chief Nana Kweku Opare II died in a Feb. 15, 2026, crash on the Cape Coast-Kumasi Highway after being hit by a speeding, headlightless motorbike.
Chief Nana Kweku Opare II, 70, of Assin Tetre-Nkwanta, died in a traffic accident on February 15, 2026, on the Cape Coast-Kumasi Highway near Assin Praso, Ghana.
He was returning from a funeral with sub-chiefs when struck by a speeding motorbike without headlights while crossing the road, sustaining multiple fractures.
He was rushed to Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The motorbike rider, 24-year-old Ebenezer Tettey, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Witnesses reported the incident occurred around 8:00 PM.
The community mourned the chief’s death, and police have launched an investigation.
