Colorado Springs proposes a $8.54 monthly fee starting July 2026 to replace aging gas lines, ending in 2029.
Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing a temporary monthly fee on natural gas bills starting July 1, 2026, to fund accelerated replacement of aging steel gas lines.
The federal mandate requires completing the work within 10 years, with 39 miles of lines to be replaced by 2034.
The rider would add $8.54 monthly to residential bills and $18 to commercial and industrial bills, with a public hearing in April and a City Council vote expected by late April.
If approved, the fee will end in 2029.
The city also plans a temporary gas price reduction later in 2026 to offset the increase.
