A business associate sues John Risley’s CFFI Ventures for $22 million on the same day CFFI filed a restructuring plan.
A longtime business associate of John Risley, a prominent Atlantic Canadian seafood magnate, has sued CFFI Ventures, the investment firm Risley leads, in Nova Scotia Supreme Court, alleging it owes him over $22 million.
The lawsuit was filed on February 18, 2026, the same day Risley announced CFFI had submitted a restructuring plan to transfer its assets to a new owner to manage debt and ensure financial sustainability.
Risley, co-founder of Clearwater Seafoods, has not commented on the lawsuit, stating he had not seen it and was advised not to speak.
CFFI is also involved in a proposed wind-powered hydrogen project in western Newfoundland.
The claims in the lawsuit have not been proven or tested in court.
