A York County corrections officer, a U.S. citizen with legal work status, was released after being detained by ICE during a January enforcement operation in Scarborough, Maine.
The officer, held at a Massachusetts facility, was arrested during an immigration appointment as part of “Operation Catch of the Day,” which led to 206 arrests across Maine targeting criminal illegal immigrants.
Sheriff William King confirmed the officer passed all background checks and is eligible for rehire pending ICE’s confirmation of renewed work authorization.
A Cumberland County officer was also arrested during the surge.
The officer’s name has not been released at family request, and details on more than a dozen detainees remain undisclosed.
