Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the ISKCON temple in Mayapur, West Bengal, on February 18, 2026, to mark the 152nd appearance day of Vaishnav revivalist Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati.
Accompanied by West Bengal BJP leaders, he arrived by helicopter and participated in religious rituals, including Narsingh Puja and Ashtasakhi Puja.
Shah praised ISKCON’s global spread of Sanatana Dharma and its humanitarian work, citing the Bhagavad Gita’s widespread distribution and disaster relief efforts.
He highlighted the legacy of Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada and linked modern national projects like the Ram Temple to historical figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose 21-foot statue he unveiled earlier in Gujarat.
Though expected to avoid direct political remarks due to the religious context, the visit drew attention ahead of state Assembly elections.
