Tropicana Field reopens April 6, 2026, with a new hurricane-resistant roof and turf after $60 million in repairs from Hurricane Milton.
Tropicana Field will reopen on April 6, 2026, for the Tampa Bay Rays’ home opener after a $60 million restoration following Hurricane Milton’s damage in October 2024.
The project, finished on time and within budget, includes a new fiberglass dome roof designed to withstand 150 to 165 mph winds.
The roof’s translucent, Teflon-coated PTFE panels were designed in France, made in Germany, cut in China, and installed over 200 feet above the field using ropes and harnesses during clear-sky windows; the final panel was secured on November 21, 2025.
Workers then installed over 137,000 square feet of new turf, including clay for the infield and a walnut shell blend for the warning track, with a three-quarter-inch pad laid over the concrete base.
