Pennsylvania’s Treasury Department is questioning whether state law permits using public funds for over $1 million in security upgrades at Gov.
Josh Shapiro’s private Montgomery County home, following a 2025 break-in at the state-owned governor’s mansion.
While State Police deemed the upgrades necessary for the governor’s safety and authorized them under emergency provisions, Treasury officials, led by Republican Stacy Garrity, are auditing related invoices and seeking legal justification for spending taxpayer money on private property.
The department has not found a clear policy allowing such use, and the controversy has drawn scrutiny as Garrity prepares to challenge Shapiro in the upcoming gubernatorial race.
