Ontario invests $30M in Cornwall for new water intake to replace aging, failing pipe.
Ontario is investing $30 million in Cornwall to build a new secondary water intake, the largest provincial funding in the city’s history, to replace its aging 65-year-old water pipe that has failed in the past due to ice and blockages.
The project, part of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream, aims to improve water security and prevent future disruptions.
Total costs are estimated at $56.1 million, with the province contributing the maximum available amount.
The funding was announced by MPP Nolan Quinn at a ceremony in Cornwall, following years of advocacy by city leaders.
