flag Kingston residents saved a man’s life after he suffered cardiac arrest while driving, thanks to quick CPR and AED use.

On February 17, 2026, Kingston residents Samantha MacKay, Charles Nicholas, and Tyler Yule were honored by Mayor Bryan Paterson for saving Tim Keeling’s life during a cardiac arrest in June 2025. Keeling, a fit man who had been playing golf, collapsed at an intersection while driving. Yule, an 18-year-old bystander, immediately intervened, helping remove Keeling from the car and coordinating CPR with others. They used an AED and delivered two shocks, restoring Keeling’s vital signs. Despite a typical survival rate of about 8% for such cases, Keeling made a full recovery after being rushed to Hotel Dieu Hospital. The community’s swift response and training in emergency procedures were credited with the outcome.
