Joe Garcia MBE, CEO of the Great North Air Ambulance Service, marks his first year leading the organization, having served as interim CEO since January 2025 and formally appointed in October.
He emphasized maintaining high standards of care and long-term sustainability amid challenges from an aging helicopter fleet.
To replace two aging aircraft, GNAAS plans to acquire three new H145 D2 helicopters and launched the Operation SOS campaign to raise £2.5 million for the third aircraft’s deposit.
Within three months, over £500,000 was raised, with hopes to meet the goal later in 2026.
The charity continues strengthening NHS partnerships and ensuring operational resilience.
