A Cork woman, Colette Sheehan, has been awarded at least €218,000 in damages by Ireland’s High Court for injuries sustained in a November 2020 rear-end collision on a roundabout.
The judgment, by Judge Conor Dignam, included €130,000 in general damages and €88,164 for lost earnings and other special damages.
Sheehan, a 54-year-old civil servant, suffered post-concussion syndrome, whiplash, knee injury, and ongoing symptoms including fatigue, headaches, sensitivity to light and sound, poor concentration, and mood changes.
The accident forced her to take a year off work and prevented a full return to her job, while also triggering early menopause and contributing to anxiety and depression.
Further compensation for future loss of earnings and pension benefits remains to be determined.
