Iowa universities propose 2.7%–3% tuition hikes for 2026–27, facing legislative pushback.
The Iowa Board of Regents proposes a 2.7% to 3% tuition increase for the 2026–27 academic year at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa to address financial challenges.
The hikes would raise resident undergraduate tuition to between $9,054 and $9,852, with higher increases for out-of-state students.
Two Iowa legislative bills aim to block or limit these increases, including one that would freeze tuition for in-state students for four years and another that would ban hikes for five years.
The board’s decision is pending an April meeting, with final approval required by April 30 under new state law.
