German man convicted of killing and eating another man he met online, despite the victim's consent.

Armin Meiwes, a German computer technician, was convicted in 2003 of murdering and cannibalizing Bernd Brandes, a man he met online through a fetish forum. The two had agreed to a disturbing pact: Brandes would be killed and eaten in exchange for having his penis consumed. After Brandes traveled to Meiwes’ home, he was drugged, mutilated, and killed. Meiwes recorded the act, consumed parts of the body, and stored the remains in his freezer. Despite Brandes’ consent, Meiwes was convicted of murder, as German law does not recognize consent as a defense for such crimes. He was sentenced to life in prison.
