A former pre-K teacher in Winston-Salem was charged with child abuse and contributing to delinquency over alleged incidents in late 2024.
Teresa Hazlett, 59, a former pre-K teaching assistant at Sedge Garden Elementary School in Winston-Salem, has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile stemming from alleged incidents in October and November 2024.
She was arrested after a police investigation coordinated with the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office, voluntarily turned herself in, and was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Her court date is set for April 14, 2026, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The school district confirmed her removal from the classroom following safety concerns reported in November 2023 and reiterated its commitment to student safety and cooperation with authorities.
