Delhi High Court orders government to explain why DCW leadership positions have remained vacant since Jan 2024, citing dysfunction and rights violations.
The Delhi High Court has ordered the Delhi government to explain why vacant positions, including the Chairperson role, at the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) remain unfilled since January 2024, following a public interest litigation by RJD MP Sudhakar Singh.
The court expressed concern over the commission’s inactivity, noting it has been effectively non-functional, with no staff or services available, undermining its statutory role in supporting women.
The petition claims the absence of leadership has collapsed key services like crisis intervention and counselling units, violating constitutional rights.
The government’s counsel stated the DCW is not closed and asked for more time, while the court emphasized that no justification exists for the commission’s prolonged vacancy.
The matter is set for hearing on February 25, 2026.
