Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra appeared before Maharashtra’s Legislative Council privileges committee on February 17, 2026, over allegations tied to a 2023 parody song criticizing Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s 2022 political shift.
The hearing was postponed to March 10 due to the absence of the primary complainant, BJP leader Pravin Darekar.
Kamra and Shiv Sena-UBT leader Sushma Andhare, who supported him, said their statements were not recorded.
Kamra denied seeking an adjournment and stated he felt safe despite prior threats and a reported incident where the venue of his performance was vandalized.
The committee will review the case to determine if the remarks breached legislative privilege.
