Cambodia’s 12th-century Beng Mealea temple causeway restored with Chinese-funded project, completed July 2025.
The eastern causeway of Cambodia’s 12th-century Beng Mealea temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park has been restored using funding from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, regaining its structural stability and original appearance.
Completed in July 2025 after work began in May 2024, the project repaired a 100-meter-long causeway with 12 pillars and 13 drainage channels, reinstalled damaged Naga balustrades, and revived the ancient water system.
The restoration, overseen by the APSARA National Authority, has preserved the temple’s cultural heritage and enhanced its appeal to visitors.
