Billy Tatham, 19, of Halstead, was sentenced to 36 months in prison for a series of violent crimes committed between ages 17 and 19, including threatening a 13-year-old with a knife, brandishing a three-pronged sword, and causing serious injuries in a drug-impaired car crash that left four friends injured, one unconscious and another with severe facial trauma.
He fled the crash scene, prompting victims to fear abandonment.
Tatham also admitted to theft and possessing weapons and drugs.
His defense cited mental health struggles, drug use, and unstable family conditions, noting he participated in educational and creative programs while incarcerated.
The judge ordered at least 18 months in a young offenders’ institution and a two-year driving ban.
