BC’s IIO to assess if police response linked to Feb. 10, 2026, Tumbler Ridge shooting that killed nine.
British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office is assessing whether to investigate the February 10, 2026, mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge that killed nine people, including the shooter, and injured more than two dozen.
The IIO, notified by the RCMP, is determining if police actions or inactions are connected to the deaths and injuries.
If a connection is found, a full investigation will follow; if not, no action will be taken.
The review is separate from ongoing RCMP and other agency investigations, and officials are withholding details to avoid prejudicing those efforts.
IIO chief Jessica Berglund expressed condolences to victims’ families, emphasizing the need for a thorough, fair, and independent process.
The public is urged to remain patient as the assessment continues.
