A 27-year-old man faces over 60 charges for allegedly stealing 25 cars in Melbourne using key cloning devices.
A 27-year-old man from Ringwood North has been charged with over 60 offences, including car theft and burglary, in connection with at least 25 vehicle thefts across Melbourne’s east and southeast between September 2025 and January 2026.
Police allege he used third-party key reprogramming devices to steal cars, many push-start models, from train station car parks, driveways, and streets.
On 29 January, authorities arrested him at his home, recovering a key mimicking device, seven stolen vehicles, and seven sets of stolen registration plates.
He is due in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 25 February, with more charges expected.
Vehicle thefts have risen in Victoria, prompting police to urge drivers to lock cars, park off-street, and use anti-theft port devices to block key cloning attempts.
