A Wilmington police officer was injured Monday morning when struck by a pickup truck that ran a red light at the intersection of North 17th Street and Grace Street, pushing the patrol car into a cemetery gate.
Clifford Robert Haynes, 36, was arrested and charged with reckless driving with wanton disregard, failure to stop at a red light, and felony serious injury by vehicle, with a blood draw taken due to suspicion of impairment.
The officer was transported to the hospital and reported in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is seeking a driver who led them on a high-speed chase involving a blue Ford Bronco, which jumped a divider and crossed into oncoming traffic before being found abandoned on Darlington Avenue.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
