U.S. bobsledders raced barefoot after their gear was left behind, but continued after retrieval.
U.S. bobsledders Frankie del Duca and Josh Williamson were left barefoot after their second run at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo when their down bag—containing warm clothes and sneakers—was accidentally left at the top of the track.
To protect their racing spikes from damage, they walked on cold concrete without footwear, joking about an “ice bath from the ground up.” Team official Curt Tomasevicz retrieved the bag and delivered their gear, allowing them to recover and continue in the competition.
The incident underscored the logistical challenges of bobsledding and the importance of gear management between runs.
