San Diego has activated its inclement weather shelter program for Monday evening due to an approaching winter storm bringing rain, cold temperatures, and high surf.
Shelters opened at three locations, including the Joan Kroc Center and Paul Mirabile Center at 1501 Imperial Avenue, each offering up to 61 adult beds and additional space for families and single women, with check-in from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The Living Water Church of the Nazarene at 1550 Market Street provides up to 28 beds, with reservations available from 1 to 4 p.m. and check-in starting at 8 p.m.
The program, a collaboration between the San Diego Housing Commission, city officials, Father Joe's Villages, and Living Water Church, aims to offer safe, warm shelter during extreme weather.
