The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s 2026 Budget Session opened on February 16 with protests from opposition Congress MLAs over the government’s handling of a water contamination crisis in Indore, which has been linked to at least 16 deaths, according to a government audit.
Governor Mangubhai Patel’s address, which highlighted development projects, river interlinking, and a goal to make the state a two-trillion-dollar economy by 2047, omitted mention of the public health emergency and other crises, including child poisonings in Chhindwara.
