Ohio State Representative Andrea White has introduced H.B.
689 to modernize the state’s criminal data system by requiring electronic submission of fingerprints and case dispositions from law enforcement, courts, and correctional facilities to the Attorney General’s office.
The bill aims to improve background check accuracy and speed by eliminating paper-based errors and missing data, such as cases with dispositions but no fingerprints.
It also addresses reporting gaps for non-charged arrests, grand jury dismissals, and juvenile mental health cases.
Supported by major police organizations, the bill has not yet been assigned to a committee.
