India's top election officials arrived in Assam on Feb. 16, 2026, to review preparations for the state’s upcoming assembly elections.
A high-level team from India’s Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Guwahati on February 16, 2026, for a three-day review of pre-poll preparations ahead of Assam’s 2026 Assembly elections.
The delegation, including Election Commissioners Dr. SS Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, is assessing logistics, security, voter list accuracy, and election infrastructure, particularly in remote and sensitive areas.
The final voter list now includes approximately 2.49 crore voters, down by about 243,000 from the draft.
The team is meeting with political parties, police, district officials, and polling staff to ensure readiness and adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.
The elections are expected in the first half of 2026.
