flag Hancock County unveils a mural for West Virginia’s 250th Independence anniversary, featuring local landmarks and industry.

Hancock County has unveiled a mural design for West Virginia’s America250 Mural Project, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Created with input from local residents and the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the artwork features landmarks like the World’s Largest Teapot, Rock Springs Park, and the Wayne Six Toll Bridge, along with representations of New Cumberland’s historic brick ovens and riverboat, and Weirton’s steel industry and motto “Success in Unity.” Additional elements include the Peter Tarr Furnace, a bike trail, Tomlinson Run State Park sign, and symbols of recreation. The mural will be installed on the southern wall of 3246 Main St. in Weirton, formerly an Isaly’s deli, now home to Blue Cat Coffee. Funded by a $5,000 state grant supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the project must include the official America250 logo and will be promoted by the West Virginia Department of Tourism.
