The City of Ekurhuleni has launched a two-month vetting of over 3,500 metro police officers, hiring an independent forensic firm after the Madlanga Commission revealed widespread corruption, including over 300 officers with criminal records. Suspended officials, including Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and heads of legal and human resources, face disciplinary charges for allegedly shielding Mkhwanazi from accountability and suppressing an IPID report on fraudulent contracts. The city emphasizes these actions are part of a broader effort to restore governance and integrity, with processes following legal and labour procedures.
