Delhi High Court gives India’s foreign ministry 4 weeks to secure consular access for detained Major Vikrant Jaitly in UAE.
The Delhi High Court has granted the Ministry of External Affairs four weeks to secure consular access for retired Major Vikrant Jaitly, detained in the UAE since September 2024, and to inform him of legal proceedings.
The court directed the MEA to share updates and documents, including a note from his wife Charul Jaitly, with both her and his sister, Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly.
UAE authorities have not yet approved consular access, with approval expected in 3–4 weeks.
The court emphasized it is reviewing the government’s actions, not family disputes, and previously ordered the MEA to facilitate a meeting for Jaitly to appoint the Emirati law firm Khalid Al Maree and Partners for pro bono representation, with the option to choose another firm if needed.
Media interactions require court permission.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 16.
