Brockville plans to move its city flagpole to Reynolds Park to limit City Hall flags to national and provincial symbols, following a tied vote on flying the Palestinian flag.
Brockville city council’s general committee is reviewing a proposal to move a community flagpole from City Hall to Reynolds Park, aiming to separate civic flag displays from community expressions.
The plan, prompted by a tied 2025 vote on flying the Palestinian flag, would reduce flagpoles at the Brockville Railway Tunnel to three, allowing only the flags of Canada, Ontario, and Brockville, plus the Franco-Ontarian flag.
Local groups like Brockville Pride and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Committee would continue to fly flags at the new community pole, while administrative authority would shift to city staff to ensure consistent, non-partisan management.
Public feedback largely supports limiting City Hall flags to national and provincial symbols.
The committee meeting is set for 4:30 p.m.
